We’re not going to say we’ve come up with a magical pill, we’re not going to tell you our blend is amazing, and nobody could copy it. We’re just telling you what we’ve included and why it’s in here. No marketing talk, just the facts. We’re not going to promise you it’s going to work. It may not, what we’ve created is one supplement and tried to fit as many of the best ingredients (that have been shown to be effective) into it as possible giving you the best chance of getting something that works for you. That’s why we had to make it 4 capsules a day, there isn’t any filler in here, aside from what was needed to stop the capsules falling apart. So, let’s talk about what’s in Flex Again and why.

And if the science changes, our blend will change with it. We’re going to do everything we can to bring you the best product possible. We take this supplement to; we are both the makers and were its first guinea pigs.

Omega 3 1100mg – Most of us know that we need Omega 3 to keep our joints healthy, what most people don’t realize is quite how much of it we need. A lot of other supplements underdose this important ingredient. 1100mg is the recommended RDI, so it will keep your joints in as good a shape as they can be. Omega 3 supplementation has been shown to result in less pain relief requirements for sufferers of Rheumatoid arthritis (not enough to deal with it alone) as listed on the national institute of health’s consumer guide [1] and have shown that omega-3 fatty acids can have a modulatory effect on disease activity, namely on the number of swollen and tender joints [2]. A lot of supplements talk about the blend of DHA and EPA’s but, they’re making a lot of fuss about marketing spiel. There’s also some marketing fuss around the source of omega oils, but the bioavailability tends to be higher in the less densely packed sources to the point where it balances out.

Vit D 15 mcg – Vitamin D deficiency exacerbates joint pain [3] and 41% of the US population is deficient [4], it seems quite straightforward that a good joint supplement would consider this, so we did.

Vit K2 70mcg – Current studies show that getting enough vitamin K can slow the progression of Osteoarthritis [5] as a relatively small ingredient to include we deemed it made sense to include it in Flex Again to ensure your ongoing health.

250mg of Ginger and Blue Galangal Extract – Ginger is well documented as being a powerful natural anti-inflammatory and as a result great for joint pain relief. The problem with it however, is that most of the studies show that it needs to be dosed at 2000mg for OA and 4000mg was best for RA which is an awful lot and not really suitable for a capsule based supplement. Similarly to the tests done with Eurovita Extract 77 (another gingerol standardised ginger and galangal extract) however is 12X more densely packed with the active ingredients gingerols with the arthritis foundation citing 255mg being equivalent to 3000mg of Ginger [6]. It’s been shown to be clinically effective at supporting pain relief in OA patients [7].

100mg bromelain -  A 2004 review published in Evidence-Based Complementary and Alternative Medicine found that bromelain showed promise as a treatment for OA and there is some evidence that enzymes like bromelain have pain-relieving and anti-inflammatory effects comparable to NSAID [8]

500mg curcumin extract* - This compound comes from Turmeric it's known to be  potent anti-inflammatory, curcumin blocks inflammatory cytokines and enzymes, including 5-LOX and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), the target of the drug celecoxib. In 2016, an industry-sponsored systematic review of randomized controlled trials found that curcumin reduced OA pain and inflammation as well as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs [9] (NSAIDs) like diclofenac and ibuprofen. The study used 500mg curcumin extract capsules.

100mg resveratrol - Resveratrol has been proven to be a potent anti inflammatory and has been shown to have a multitude of other health benefits. "In preclinical models of osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis, resveratrol has shown joint protective effects, mainly mediated by decreased production of pro-inflammatory and pro-degradative soluble factors, and modulation of cellular and humoral responses" [10]

50mg methylsulfonylmethane - A 2006 pilot study of 50 men and women with knee OA showed that MSM improved symptoms of pain and physical function without major side effects, however, MSM is one of the less well backed ingredients in FlexAgain, it is still promising for joint health. [6]

400mg glucosamine - Often combined with chondroitin.  Phillip Barr, MD, a physician at Duke Integrative Medicine in North Carolina recommends 500 mg to 3 grams of glucosamine and chondroitin a day in divided doses. He also advises patients to stay on the supplements for at least a month to see if they take effect. After a month, they may stop taking them if they don’t see any improvement [6].    

250mg chondroitin - this is included as many studies show it increases the effectiveness of glucosamine. We may look to remove chondroitin and replace it with another ingredient if in future if the evidence changes.

100mg Boswellic Acid* - Boswellic Acids are known anti-inflammatories. They block an enzyme called 5-lipoxygenase (5-LOX) that breaks down polyunsaturated fatty acids in foods into leukotrienes, inflammatory molecules that attack joints and other tissues. Boswellia may also help reduce cartilage damage in arthritis. A 2014 Cochrane Review found that a three-month course of 100 mg a day Boswellic acids reduced OA pain by nearly 20 points and improved function by eight points (on 100-point scales) without serious side effects. [6]
